Six prominent architects explored theseminar theme through case studies of their own work and through a widerreflection on creative uses of the past. Three historians and theorists responded to the architects’presentations and delivered their own contributions to the subject.In addition to A. J. Diamond, speakers includearchitects Dimitris Antonakakis, Balkrishna V. Doshi, James Ingo Freed, ArataIsozaki, and Antoine Predock.  Stanford Anderson, Kenneth Frampton and Joseph Rykwert responded tothe architects’ presentations and delivered original presentations. Alsoparticipating were architects David Cassuto, Lou Gelehrter, Ulrik Plesner,David Reznik, and Moshe Safdie who introduced the various speakers.  The conference was chaired by architectsJulian Beinart of MIT and Arthur Spector of Jerusalem.The edited videotaped lecture delivered by A.J.
